Thrifty shopping tip

I thought I'd pass on a thrifty shopping tip to anyone who was interested. In one of my monthly magazines they mentioned the website mysupermarket.co.uk which they said could help you save money on your on-line shopping. As I've mentioned in a previous post I do as much of my shopping as I can locally but there are still things that I have to buy from the supermarket, although I do this on line so that I don't have to visit myself.

Well, getting back to the tip, when you log in to my supermarket you are asked to choose your favoured supermarket out of Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Waitrose, you must already be registered with them, and then you shop as you would normally on the supermarkets website - you can download your usuals if you have shopped with the supermarket before. All the while the clever website tells you how much your shopping would be costing at the other stores - you have the option of changing your store if you find that one of the other's comes out cheaper overall. The site has a tab that gives you the option to choose items to swap for cheaper alternatives, beit another brand or special offers on other sizes etc, and keeps a total of how much you can save if you swap. Another tab allows you to swap for lower calorie food if you wish.

After shopping from my usuals list I was pleased to see that Sainsbury's, my usual supermarket, was actually the cheapest for my basket (prices ranged from £120 to £165 for the same basket!) - obviously different people may find different stores cheaper depending on what they bought. I was also thrilled through some swaps to be able to save £15.64 on my £120 shop, so over the course of a year this could amount to around £180....just think what you could buy with that! When it is time to buy you are directed to your store's secure site, so it is just as if you shopped directly with them, except someone else has done all of the searching for the savings for you.

I will definitely be shopping via this site again.

Now that's a great idea. A little geographically challenged to make use of it...but a great idea all the same.

Fantastic! Thank you for that - I'll use it next time I do my 'heavy shop'. I shop locally for fresh produce and then get some other poor schmuk to bring me all the heavy/big/awkward stuff.

Oh, what a great idea! I might give that a try - I tend to spend less when I shop for groceries online anyway, as I don't get tempted to buy little extras (like choccie biscuits etc!).

I've never done my shopping online but this certainly sounds wonderful I'm all for keeping the pennies in my pocket.
