One of my black hens, you can just see her behind the white cockerill, has disappeared. When I counted the number in their tree last night before locking their gate I was one short, so walked around underneath - very risky without an umbrella, to see which one and found that it was Sooty.
After searching the garden and the neighbouring fields I still couldn't find her, but neither did I see any feathers left behind. I don't think she can have been taken by a fox, so it must either have been a bird of prey, we have several in nearby woods, or unfortunately a two legged visitor, there have been a number of chicken thefts in the county recently. Sooty is now the 4th chicken that has 'disappeared' in the last few months and as you can imagine I am quite sad, they are my pets, very generous ones who provide lovely eggs, so it is a bit like losing your pet rabbit.
At least the weather should be good this weekend, so that will be a bit cheery, especially as T will be playing his first club game of the new rugby season on Sunday, so I can spend a couple of completely guilt free hours enjoying the sun.....woops I mean supporting my son.
Have a good weekend
p.s. sorry there are no breaks between paragraphs, they are showing up in the preview pane but are disappearing when I publish!

Now that just sucks about Sooty - more so if it is the human kind - my thoughts go out to you. On a brighter note hope you are having fun in the sun!
Oh dear I think it is even more distressing when you don't really know what has happened to them. We have to shut our hens away each evening or they would never survive.
Oh I just saw the picture of your hens in the tree, so lovely. Actually chickens can't see in the dark so they go to roost as the light begins to fail, no late nights for them!
Hello and thanks for visiting me. I hope that your Sooty comes back; when we were children we had hens and many of them were quite happy to be picked up and cuddled.
And even on the other side of the world I like to see the hedgehogs.
I'm sorry that the teachers at your children's school couldn't ait to see you
